The Sitter

Hi there,

my name is Radu, I’m a vegan living in Berlin and I would love to hear from you if you need someone to “pet” or house sit for you in Berlin.

I studied naturopathic medicine (Heilpraktik) here in Berlin in German but I feel more fluid in English but can converse in both just as well. My native language is Romanian along which I can manage in Italian and French and can probably understand if someone speaks slowly in Slovak.

My recent experience with taking care of “pets” started in 2013 when I started sharing the living space with Paula, a rather large elderly dog who at that time had problems after every time she went for a walk. Arthritis in her right knee made it painful to walk long distances especially as she was overweight and unused to walks. But my partner and I started going for short, often walks along with putting Paula on a diet and for two years afterwards she’s enjoyed going for walks up to 5 times per day. Up until her spondylosis developed she was able to run, swim and was not limping at all anymore.

In September of 2014, Lucy the 15 year old cat joined the living space as a “in house care patient” from the Animal Shelter. She was supposed to be killed as she was not eating and yelling all the time. The yelling never went away as her thyroid gland problems paired with very old age issues simply make her very vocal. But we discovered she functions on petting and as soon as she got her full she would go and eat, come back and repeat. She needed medication two times per day for high blood pressure and the thyroid. Along with that it’s been challenging sharing the sleeping space with someone yelling the entire night but it has all been a lesson in patience.

In this period I also started taking care of Mimmi, an 18 year old cat that a neighbor would leave in my and partner’s care while on business trips one week per month at a time.

From October of 2015 to spring 2016 I was taking permanent care for an older dog who could barely see, couldn’t really hear and suffered from arthritis and heart valve insufficiency that made him cough when he got excited. He needed daily medication and even with frequent walks he still pooped and/or peed in the house which needed constant cleaning.

This sort of caring work, cleaning, feeding, medicating, petting and preparing a challenging environment for someone basically trapped in a house prepares me for the future in which I see myself taking care of various people in need at a vegan animal sanctuary. As a child,  as early as 6 years old I was always surrounded by animals at my grandparents’ place feeding chickens and bringing back the cow from the heard from at around the same age. With my current work I partially want to make it up to all of them for my involvement at that time in their exploitation.

Why should you get in touch with me when in need of a house sitter or someone to care for a dog, rat, cat or anyone else?

If a cat, a dog, a rat or anyone else is involved you can be sure that I will be with them at night, go out for walks or keep them busy and entertained as I don’t go out myself, rarely drink and don’t smoke.

I’m here in Berlin now and will continue to be here for some time.bla

We can meet before any agreements are made and you can show me your routine.

If you have an emergency on another occasion and need someone quickly you can always get back in touch and if pets are involved they will not be as stressed seeing someone they know rather than another stranger.

Visit “How I work” for more information and “References” for impressions on my work.
